This month (aka, last month. I’m way behind) in Little Makers we talked about pendulums and knocked over towers with wrecking balls!
First up, I read the book Bam, Bam, Bam by Eve Merriam, which they really loved. We talked a lot about construction vehicles, everybody’s favorite!
Then, I shared the app Kapu Blocks by Kapu Toys, which is essentially building towers out of all sorts of funny materials (hamburgers! castles! rocket ships!) and then knocking them over with a wrecking ball. That’s it. The kids love it.
Finally, we started playing! I had lots of different size, texture, and weight of balls hanging from the ceiling and from the edges of tables, and we built towers out of blocks, rocks, and paper cups.
The older kids stayed on task for a while, but eventually they joined the younger kids in throwing the balls around and generally having a good time.
